A labor of love for Shirley Chisholm
A great woman once said, when she pass away she does not want to be remembered as the first black woman to bid for presidency, but she wants to be remembered as a woman who fought to evoke changes during the 20th century.
I was returning from the bank, and stumbled into the office of Office Divvy. Warmly greeted by Lisa, she invited me into the executive table to discuss my mission with Natural Nubian. I told her I wanted to make a major difference and encourage changes in the city of Palm Coast. My desire to inspire hope using the social media stimulated something within Lisa's mind. Improving economic development within our community helps improve our education system, healthcare system, and entrepreneurship. I must have reminded her of Congresswoman Shirley Chisholm because we both shared similar passions to help others. Lisa shared her disbelieve that so many people in the city of Palm Coast did not know anything about Shirley Chisholm and her connections to our, now incorporated city.
Most people moved Palm Coast to relax! But my mission is to bring hope to the City of Palm Coast for those who are seeking opportunity. Also making our community an all inclusive place to live for diverse people.
Lisa presented a social media awareness campaign in honor of Shirley Chisholm to improve the awareness of Shirley Chisholm. Chisholm moved here, as many of her constituents from Brooklyn, New York, in 1991 and her funerals services was conducted right here in Palm Coast, Fl.
Gracefully, I accepted the challenge to bring Congresswoman back into the forefront of so many people, by using the Worldwide web.
Office Divvy and I created an unique education platform for so many. I expanded on the vision and encouraged a Day in remembrance of her.
I worked diligently with Office Divvy interns team to make sure the proclamation was ready and prepared for the signature of our city Mayor Jon Netts. Kedron finalized the proclamation for approval and submission to our city council for meeting scheduled on Nov 17th 2015.
The website was completed for public viewing only one week before we met with city council. My job was to promote, share, spread the word of the awareness campaign, and to reach over 100,000 of our residents in that short period of time. During my path to get everyone involved into the #IKNOWNOW campaign I was exposed to some of the most interesting things about Congresswoman Shirley Chisholm.
Her film director of "Chisholm 72 Unbought &Unboss Film , Shola Lynch clearly demonstrated to me she was passionate desire for our black female political leaders and she dug deep into your emotions as she took you back to a time when the fights and struggle hit black woman hard. This film director really went to the core of Shirley, as a congresswoman.Chisholm always seem to keep a level of emotional integrity to show the American people she could handle any punch that came her way.
From Shirley Chisholm to Sarah Palin to now Hillary, 10 years later, after Shirley's death we have woman bidding for presidency. We can build a bigger and better United States through the leaders from our past.
Intimate details were shared about her final days. Her God daughter shared her losing her voice after the stroke decreased her sense of value to world. Shirley birth no children, had no husband toward the end of her years, and had no one to carry her mantel. She lost her desire to continue her quest to fight in 2005. It was her sadden reality and Marya and her mom knew there was nothing they could do to save their beloved at that point.
Mixed emotions were shared about her home going celebration. For a city who had limited resources, few buildings large enough to accommodate a funeral, and honoring such dignitary's wishes for a simple and uncomplicated funeral services was huge consideration which stuck in most people's minds . She only wanted her home going to be simple and wanted to be remembered as a simple person who faced everyday challenges just like so many. She fought so hard during the 60's for peace. No one could ever image her closest connections were to be honor in the most simplest fashion. Unpopular her desire was to rest in peace, not to be remembered as the first black woman to bid for presidency.
Jan 1 2005 the fight stopped and she was laid to rest. My heart was stricken because people of powerful influence was not welcome to speak on behalf of our belated Congresswoman during her commemoration services. Nonetheless Congresswoman Shirley Chisholm will always be remembered for her great contributions for civil rights and dignitaries now have the opportunity to speak in honor of her nationally.
Politics stopped that day for Shirley Chisholm and she only wanted to be remember as Shirley Anita St Hill Chisholm. She was a woman who had no children, worked hard, and retired to be left with no blood relatives at her side, and who died with her caregiver at her bedside. Shirley's gentleness and kindness was laid to rest and released as they shipped her body back to her home in New York. Evoking change remains her legacy and everyone who knew her knew she will always be unapologetic "Unbought and Unbossed".
10 years after she passed way she has been brought back to the forefront of the City of Palm Coast. This time our incorporated city is excited to come together to celebrate a day in honor of her. Shirley Chisholm Day is a day of hope and change for all woman, children, men, and families.
Our entire community may not have been a part of her commemoration services, but each year we will show our love for the legendary congresswoman Shirley Chisholm on 11/30.
November 17th at 9 am Mayor Jon Netts and the city council of Palm Coast signed and approval Shirley Chisholm Day for Nov 30th 2015. The proclamation was received and accepted by Marya Bosley and her family. visionaries Lisa, Orjanette, Ky, Monica, Kedron, and all the Office Divvy staff, Natural Nubian, and her Pastor Glover witness this historical moment.

Orjanette Bryant hosted a simple celebration. During the celebration our very own animator/ cartoonist, Ron Bryant will be sharing his limited edition work, which was submitted to the US Post services. Marya Bosley, her beloved goddaughter will her stories of her and her experience as she went to Washington DC to accept the Presidential Medal of Freedom alone with Chisholm's nephew and niece, Sheriff Manfre, and his lovely wife, Corrine shared their personal connection with her while in New York and Palm Coast.
